About Suzanne Cassells

Learn To Sew was established over 16 years ago. After many years in the fashion industry, I wanted to teach and pass on my knowledge to upcoming sewing enthusiasts.

At an early age I had a passion for Fashion Design and Construction. I made my own clothes from the age of 13 under the guidance of my mother Lillian, a professional seamstress. I went on to complete a Designer Dressmaker Small Business course at The Gordon Institute in Geelong and started my own business.

I created "Sand Cassells" a successful children's wear label. I then specialised in made to measure bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses with hand embroidered details. I have extensive experience in constructing womenswear, menswear including tailored jackets, formal wear, maternity wear and costumes.

I am a member of the Embroiders Guild Victoria and I was awarded the prestigious Ethel Oates Scholarship in 2008. I also completed a Masterclass in Gold Work and Metal Thread embroidery. I earned a distinction for a Masterclass in Stumpwork Embroidery which I undertook from 2011 - 2013. My major piece was based on a traditional 17th century embroidered casket.
